Hmm….
Sometimes you really want a beer to taste great, just from looking at the bottle. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this was Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown …. Then I had to find some music to get that song out of my mind. Great song but not something you want playing over and over in your head.
Speaking of head: this is a brown ale, an American Brown Ale … so where’s the head? It kind of disappeared, quickly. It came out with a nice tan head and what looked like flecks of goodies from the barrel in the head, but it disappeared before I had a chance to enjoy it.
The beer has what has become kind of a standard aroma of chocolate and malts, and this one managed to add a subtle smell of nuts. The ale is a bit sweet and stays sweet all they way through and I was thinking it was almost like they used brown sugar to aid in the fermentation which is not really a bad thing. When you pour this out it appears to have a little body, and it’s definitely brown, but as it settles into the glass the beer is actually relatively clear through and through.
The flavor …. Eh, not so much. Really kind of underwhelming. The taste of this did not exactly knock my socks off and in fact didn’t really register much at all. It had a nice flavor, it tasted like a brown ale, but if I could describe it one word it would be a light brown ale. Which in my mind is not how a brown ale is supposed to taste.
To tell you the truth, if offered one I’d drink it again but I doubt I’d go looking for one of these.
