Well since we visited my favorite brewery in Ann Arbor yesterday, we might as well stick around the town for another day and visit my second favorite brewery in the city, and that distinction belongs to Wolverine State Brewing Company. They opened their doors back in 2010 and have been serving up their delicious hand-crafted Lagers to the community ever since.

When you walk into Wolverine one of the first things you will notice is their long wooden bar that has room to fit approximately 15 to 20 avid beer connoisseurs. There are also plenty of tables for you and your crew to enjoy a meal and some drinks during your visit. If you want to sit outside and enjoy a few beers, Wolverine does offer an outdoor seating area in front of the building with plenty of seating options, and the outdoor area is dog friendly.

A relatively new addition to Wolverine State Brewing Company is Suite 103, which is a speakeasy that is hidden from the outside world. Just tell the bartender in the brewery that Earl sent you, and they know what to do from there. It is a small space, and can only accommodate parties of 6 or less. Reservations are encouraged but not necessary. This side of the establishment is 21 and over, and is only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The brewery does host various events such as patio parties, firkin fridays, charity events, live music on occasion and much more. One of the events that I have attended at Wolverine was a chili cook off last Winter. Check their website or their socials to see if there will be an event when you make your trip to Wolverine.

If you show up to Wolverine and you are hungry in addition to being thirsty, they do offer a full food menu at the brewery. Food options include their award winning nachos, various appetizers, sandwiches and delicious BBQ. We have eaten multiple times at Wolverine and every time it has been delicious. Let me put it this way, I understand why their nachos have won multiple awards over the years. Wolverine does offer a kids meal section on their menu also.

Some of their options other than beer include Signature Spirits, Handcrafted Cocktails, Wine, and Hard Seltzer. For non-alcoholic options they offer various sodas and non carbonated beverages such as lemonade.

When it comes to the beer at Wolverine they have 15 tap handles with a mix of mainstays, seasonals, and a plethora of their handcrafted lagers. Some of my favorites over the years of visiting the brewery include Irish Hills- Amber Lager, Saaz Lagoon- Czech Pilsner, Dortmunder Export, The Grim- Stout, Cranberry-Orange Westside Wheat, Fair Weather- Maibock, and Wolverine Bock. The great thing is, if you can’t make it to Wolverine in person, they do distribute their beers all over Michigan. Check your local bottle store to see if they carry their delicious lagers in your area.

My favorite beer from Wolverine over the years has to go to their Wiki Wiki which is a Strawberry and Pineapple fruited Kettle Sour. I have had this beer multiple times over the years and it gets better and better every time I have had it. The first time I had it was at the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange, and we ended up closing the place down by drinking Wiki Wiki all night long. There are very few sours that I can have multiple of in the same night, they usually get too sweet after a few, but this is definitely one I can drink as an all day drinker. Checking in at 5.1% ABV this is a beer that is capable of being very sessionable, so don’t be afraid of having a few yourself.

On your trip to Ann Arbor, a stop at Wolverine State Brewing Company should always be in order. You can hail to handcrafted delicious lagers all night long. Estrovia!
