As you are traveling along the Southwest portion of the State of Michigan, you are more than likely going to come across Benton Harbor and North Pier Brewing Company. Since opening in 2016, North Pier has been brewing quality products for their community and beyond.

North Pier has been so successful at their operation that they have since opened two new locations, Hill District by North Pier, right across the street from the taproom, Which is a full service restaurant. Another location that they have opened is King Fisher in Downtown Saint Joseph, where North Pier experiments with cocktails and street tacos. As a matter of fact, they are so successful that you can find their products in some liquor stores across Michigan. I know that my local shop has North Piers’ offerings available on their shelves.

The original taproom is a decent sized room with an L shaped bar that seats about 10 people at it. There are tables scattered around the bar area for you and your friends to catch up on the good old days. North Pier’s taproom features an outdoor seating area with televisions so that you can watch the big game while enjoying a beer outside.

For your entertainment North Pier does have a shuffleboard table in the taproom. They do host events such as live music, check their website and socials to see if they are offering any live events during your next visit. North Pier does have rental space available for private events. Contact the brewery to book your next celebration.

There are kitchens available at all of North Piers’ various locations. They do offer the same menu at the original taproom and the Hill district location, the menu includes shareables, burgers, BBQ plates, salads, fried chicken, and various sides. The King Fisher location offers a different more experimental menu which includes standards such as shareables, salads, tacos, burgers, sandwiches and wraps. All of North Piers’ locations offer a kids menu just in case the toddlers and pre-teens are along for the ride.

Is there someone in your group that despises beer? Well luckily for them North Piers’ locations all serve various Cocktails, Wine and Cider. For those in your group that don’t drink at all, they offer a menu of Mocktails, and various sodas as your refreshment options.

Up next on the docket, it is time to talk about the beer. North Pier does a fantastic lineup of products and I have tried various offerings of theirs throughout the years. Some of the tastier things that I have tried include Gatecreeper- American Stout, All The Rados’- Hazy IPA, Old Shuck- English Porter, Abacus Prime- Stout, Pip Pip- Table Beer, G Force- Belgian Tripel, Weiss Guy- Hefeweizen, and Oh My Guava- Kolsch.

The beer that I enjoyed most on my visit to their taproom has to be their Happy Guy which is a Pilsner. This isn’t your Grandpa’s Pilsner by any stretch of the imagination. It is a little higher gravity for a Pilsner, as it checks in at 6.1% ABV. Happy Guy is a dry-hopped Pilsner that is light-bodied, clean, with some light citrus notes. This beer finishes a little on the drier side but it finishes very smooth. I wish I had some of this right now, it is a great refreshing beer that is awesome for a hot summer day.

On your next visit to the Benton Harbor and Saint Joseph area make sure to stop by and check out North Pier, you will always find something fantastic on tap. Prost!
