In October 2015, the owners of Podcast Detroit reached out to Dan, Nick, and Ken; wanting to do a live show on Friday Nights to round out their studio in Ferndale Michigan with content each day of the week. Prior to this, the three of them had dabbled in podcasting and started to plan out what a podcast about craft beer would be like. This spawned an entire new show called Better on Draft, created to discuss the current events within the beer industry. Weekly guests would come into the studio to talk about the expansion of the industry, the changes that were happening around them, and we learn the history of some of the long standing breweries while promoting the new breweries opening. As the show continued to grow, we’ve brought in other voices including Rob, Angela, and Matt, and continue promoting Michigan Beer and Craft Beer as a whole.
In 2020 when the pandemic began and nowhere to go, new co-host Wendy, Rob, Ken, and Nick called upon former host Dan to hop online from Arizona and just talk beer. They realized that with a online audience captivated about the industry and how it’s going to survive, they changed up their format and began bringing on some of the largest names in the industry including Yuengling, Boston Beer Co, Sierra Nevada, and Firestone Walker. As time progressed, Rob and Nick decided to step down in 2023 leaving Better on Draft looking for a new host to join Wendy, Dan, and Ken. In 2023 Rob W joined the show to round out the foursome.
While we’ve had plenty of great guests, we do still make sure to give some love to our Michigan breweries which is why we started the #MichiganBeer Series as well to continue interviewing and talking to the local breweries.
Over 400 episodes have been recorded, spanning everyone from Alaska, Mexico, and Sweden; but we still have love for our Michigan Beer scene. You can join us Friday nights live on Twitch, YouTube, Kick, and Facebook at 8:30pm ET.
