We now have back to back days with Steve After Dark posts. For the month of April I usually take a month off from drinking. I do a sober April instead of January like everyone else. It usually coincides with disc golf season starting and helps me shed the winter weight that I inevitably put on every year. So I have some beer that I need to get rid of before April starts as a result. So I brought some fridge beers into work today to share with my co-workers so that they don’t get lost in the abyss during the month of April.
The first beer that we decided to try for the day (I let Eric pick which one he wanted to try the most out of what I brought in), was Agrarian which is a Double Dry Hopped IPA with Rye, Oat, Spelt and Wheat in it, this beer comes from Transient Artisan Ales out of Bridgman, Michigan. This was an interesting beer to try for sure, I am actually glad that I brought it into work to share, I am not sure if I would have been able to finish it by myself at home. It had a lot going on in it and for a small five ounce sample, that was the perfect size for this beer. You can taste all the ingredients that are included, but I think it is just a tad too much going on for one beer. This one checks in at 6% ABV, so it is a little bit on the lighter side of the ABV scale for a Double Dry Hopped beer from Transient. You can enjoy a couple of these in a sitting if you wish to do so.
We moved onto our second beer of the sampling and that ended up being Muinch Style, which is a Helles Lager from Drafting Table Brewing Company out of Wixom, Michigan. Now this is one that I wish that I hadn’t shared but I am always a fan of sharing. This beer was light, clean, crisp, refreshing and smooth. This beer was everything that you want a delicious Helles Lager to be. Munich Style checks in at 5.0% ABV and this is definitely a beer that you can drink all day long. I may go get more of it and drink it all day long on Sunday as a matter of fact. The beer was that fantastic, great job on this one Drafting Table.
Now we have come to the Main Event of the small Tuesday employee beer sampling at the Bearded Lamb. We saved the heavy hitter for last, Coocoo For Cacao. We need to put on our big boy pants for this beer from Austin Brothers Beer Company, this is an Imperial Stout that checks in at 15% ABV. It was made with Cacao Nibs, Chocolate Breakfast Cereal, Chocolate Bars, Chocolate Donuts, Chocolate Syrup and Vanilla. As you can guess, this beer tasted like a bunch of Chocolate. Coocoo For Cacao was sweet, decadent, rich with a slightly boozy burn on the end. It is a sipper, if you chug this one, your night will end a lot earlier than you intended.
Over the next couple of nights, we might have a few more samplings like tonight at the brewery where I will post about what we are trying out. Until then, have a great evening and Cheers!
