Today’s review is going to be a little closer to home. Today we are going to pay a visit to Ascension Brewing Company in Novi, Michigan. Ascension has been slinging suds out of their location since 2015, and they have done a fantastic job at it.
When you visit Ascension you will notice that they have a very spacious taproom. There are approximately 20 tables spread throughout the space Ascension Brewing Company occupies for your drinking and dining needs. The bar area is a smaller bar area with seating for about 8 to 10 beer drinkers. One other feature that is present at Ascension is an outdoor seating area on their front patio. The space at Ascension is available for rent for private events, so contact the brewery to inquire about hosting your next big moment at the brewery.
If you are hoping to satisfy your stomach rumblings on your visit to Ascension, good news, they offer a kitchen on site with a full menu. The food menu at the brewery includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. They even have a kids menu for patrons 12 years and younger. Also for those that don’t drink or the children, non-alcoholic beverages are soda options including Cola, Diet, Root Beer, Lemon Lime and Lemonade from Detroit City Soda Co.
For those of you that can’t make it to the brewery itself, Ascension does can and bottle their beers for distribution. Check your local bottle shop to see if they carry Ascension Brewing Company beer, if not, it can’t hurt to ask if they can get it in stock. My local shop carries their beer and the options that they distribute vary from IPAs, Lagers, Sours, Stouts, Porters and many more.
When it comes to the beers that I have enjoyed over the years on my many visits to Ascension include Funk Master Style #64- Hazy IPA, Moe Three- Hazy IPA, La C.R.E.A.M- Sour, Doppelbock, Fifth Stop (Citra, Mosaic)- Hazy IPA, Lotus Flower Bomb- Kolsch, Doppelbock Z, Ambrosia- Sour, Caravans and Dags- Export Stout, Premium- ESB, Katze- Pilsner, and a whole slew of other great beers.
The thing Ascension brews that makes my liver tremble with fear, but makes the rest of me so happy, is their Gorilla Juice line of Barrel-Aged Stouts. These are not for the faint at heart, these beers are not for everyone. Most of the variants of Gorilla Juice clock in at 16% ABV and above. If you are one of the people they are meant for, stop at Ascension the next time one of these hits the taplist, you will not regret that decision. Some of the variants I have tried on my visits include Peanut Butter Marshmallow, Rye Barrel Aged, Maple Barrel, C is for Cookie, Pecan Cake, and Rocky Road. Every single variant I have tried has been excellent, and there is not a single one that I would not drink a full pour of at any time. (Except for coconut variants, but Crystal will go nuts on those for us.) Anytime I see Gorilla Juice on their taplist when we are looking for a brewery to visit close to home, Ascension is getting a visit from us that day.
Next time you are in the Metro Detroit area and you are looking for a place with some tasty food and even tastier beverages, satisfy both needs at Ascension Brewing Company. A ta sante!
