Well after yesterday’s cliffhanger, you had to have known that the trip wasn’t over quite yet. On our walk back to the car, we decided to see if there were any more breweries that were open once the show was over, luckily for us, Batch Brewing Company was open until 11 in the Corktown Neighborhood of Detroit. This gave us about an hour to stop in and grab one last beer before we headed home for the night.

We pulled up to Batch and went inside. Upon our arrival, we were the only people in the brewery at about 10:15 at night. It was weird going into Batch and being the only customers in the place, any other trip to Batch, no matter the time of the day, they are always slinging beers. We considered not even having a beer and leaving since it looked like they were closing up for the night but the bartender on duty insisted that we sit down and have a beer. As a result of the insistence of having a beer, we decided to oblige him but we also decided to make it as quick as possible so that they could get back to closing up shop.

When it comes to their beer, Crystal decided on a pour of the Oatmeal Stout. The Oatmeal Stout is brewed with Rolled Oats and Roasted Malt. It has flavors of Coffee, Toffee, Raison and Dark Cherries. You could taste all of those flavors in the beer along with an Oatmeal base. It was roasty, malty and had a slight coffee presence in the beer. Although dark, this beer was very light-bodied and checking in at 5.5% ABV, this is a beer that you could enjoy a couple of before it starts to catch up to you.

I settled on their Nitro Jitters Coffee Brown, this beer is a Northern English Brown Ale brewed with UK Malt and Hops. It is also made with Guatemalan Pacamara Coffee Beans from Anthology Coffee. The beer is very roasty, malty and has a pronounced coffee flavor to it. Due to it being a nitro pour, it is also very creamy, well-balanced and goes down very smooth. Checking it at 5.0%, this is a very sessionable beer that you can drink all day and had I not been drinking all day already, I just might have sat there and had a few of them myself.

Now while we were enjoying our beers, we began chatting with one of the bartenders, Grant. Since the brewer at the Bearded Lamb used to work at Batch and Grant knew him, it naturally led to a conversation while we drank our beers. We had about a 20 minute conversation about beer and the current state of the industry at the moment. He let me sample a beer or two that he told me I couldn’t leave without trying. Grant and the other bartender that were working (Sorry, I didn’t remember his name or write it down), were both very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I just wanted to give them a shout out for being upbeat even though we were the only customers at the time in the brewery. Cheers guys!

After saying our goodbyes to the bartenders, we got into the car and started heading towards home. Since we had been drinking for the last 6 hours and hadn’t really eaten much in that time, we decided to stop at Leo’s Coney Island in Plymouth once we got back for a bite to eat.

This officially concludes the afternoon trip to Detroit from last Thursday. During the trip we visited Brewery Faisan, Lagerhaus #5, Eastern Market Brewing Company and Batch Brewing Company. We had a beer from Atwater Brewery, and even had a chat with one of the owners of Full Measure Brewing Company, which will be coming soon to Detroit. After a fun filled afternoon/evening of drinking, comedy and chatting with people, it is now time for me to get some sleep to get ready for work so that I can afford the next beer related trip that I decided to take. Cheers!
