Now that we are back in the Lower Peninsula for the first time in over a month, it is about time that we grab a beer. We have to look no further than Bière de Mac Brew Works in Mackinaw City, Michigan. Biere de Mac was established in 2016, opened their doors in 2017, and has been serving superb, unique beer to the millions of travelers that visit Mackinaw City on a yearly basis ever since.
The brewery is very spacious and has recently undergone quite a few renovations. They have tables spread all throughout the facility for your drinking and dining needs. The bar is a little bit of a smaller area, but you are more than welcome to belly up to one of the 10 or so seats and enjoy a beer or two. They have recently, since my last visit anyways, added an all new very spacious biergarten to the property, complete with fire pits, just in case you want to hang out and enjoy some crisp fall air without absolutely freezing your butt off. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor areas, but since they serve food, no dogs on the inside. Biere de Mac is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan your trip accordingly.
Entertainment options at the brewery include various live musical acts that make an appearance at Biere de Mac from time to time. Check their event calendar to see if they will be having any musicians coming through during your next visit. They do offer their space for rent for private events, if you are looking to host your next soiree at Biere de Mac, reach out to the brewery for pricing and booking of your event.
Biere de Mac does have a kitchen on site and offers a light menu of options that was designed to perfectly compliment their craft beer menu. They offer a couple of shareables including a smoked whitefish dip, and a shiitake mushroom crostini. Other offerings on their menu include sandwiches featuring smoked meats such as brisket and pork. They also have paninis that showcase different deli meats, cheeses, and vegetables on them.
For the person in your group that doesn’t drink beer, Biere de Mac offers various Ciders. As far as non-alcoholic options on the menu, the only things that I came across was that they offer soda and milk.
What Biere de Mac is known for though, is their French and Belgian inspired Ales. Some of the beers that I have enjoyed on my numerous visits here include a few of their Farmhouse Ales- Reciprocal Love, Fleur de Mac, The Outdoor Ferment, and the Northerner- IPA. Some of the darker beers that I have enjoyed on my trips here include Winnie the Bulldog- Russian Imperial Stout, Dock Porter, and Bateau Brown. Other beers that have filled me with delight on my trips include Copper County Altbier, MI Maple Amber, The Lake “Affect”- Witbier, and Red’s Red IPA.
The beer that I have enjoyed the most out of my visits to Biere de Mac has to be the Loudmouth Belgian Blonde. This beer has a bready and clove flavor that is smooth and easy drinking with some slight fruit notes, and finishes on the drier side. This beer checks in at 6.3% ABV, so use caution when drinking, this one is a little heavier than your typical Blonde Ale. It is so smooth though that you could drink 3 or 4 before realizing what you have just done.
As you are traveling towards the U.P., or on your way back from the U.P., or both, if you are looking to take a timeout and enjoy some very delicious French and Belgian inspired beers in a very cozy setting. Look no further than Biere de Mac Brew Works, unless it is a Monday or a Tuesday when I am traveling by, I always stop in for a couple, and you should too. A Vorte Sante!
