After leaving Alcona Brew Haus I continued my journey South on US-23 and headed towards Tawas City, Michigan and The Boathouse Beer Co. & Boozery. This brewery opened in 2017 and has been carving out a name for themselves with solid beer for the last 7 years.

The brewery is located right off the main strip of US-23 in Tawas City. If you are planning a visit, they are closed on Monday and Tuesday, check their website for hours the rest of the week.

The Boathouse Beer Co. and Boozery has multiple seating options throughout the taproom. There are tables all over the place for people looking to dine in or hang out with groups of friends or family. There is a relatively small bar with limited seating at it. They also have outdoor seating options so that you can look out at beautiful Lake Huron as you are enjoying a few adult beverages.

As far as food goes, they do have a kitchen with a full menu. The menu consists of quite a few appetizers and small snacks. Their heartier options include sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and what would a food menu from a place overlooking a Great Lake be without a few options of fish on it? I am not a big fish fan, but I think that would be strange personally. I did not eat during my visit as I arrived at last call for the night, the food did look and smell delicious though.

In addition to beer, the bar itself also offers a full menu of cocktails and various liquor options. The purpose of my visit was of course to try the beer. I got a flight of their beers, what else is new? I only got a flight of 3 since it was basically closing time when I arrived. The first two on the flight were The Alabaster’d- American IPA, and Tawas Beach- Blonde. The most delicious of the three was hands down the Joie Du Lac- Belgian Strong Dark Ale. This beer had a very strong malt and clove profile which gave it a nice subtle spiciness and it finished with a sweet, honey taste. I wish I had more of this right now.

When you are heading up Lake Huron towards Tawas City, stop your car, or drop an anchor and head towards The Boathouse Beer Co. and Boozery to treat yourself to a couple of tasty beers as you gaze over Lake Huron in all its beauty. Kanpei!
