My personal favorite brewery in Detroit, has to go to Brewery Faisan. There are quite a few good breweries in Detroit, but this one is the best in my opinion. Brewery Faisan opened up back in 2019, they are located in the Islandview neighborhood just East of Downtown Detroit. North of Jefferson Avenue and East of I-375.
The brewery itself is in an old warehouse setting that has been converted into an impressive brewing operation. The building holds quite a few people, not sure on exact capacity. But they have quite a few tables scattered throughout the place, and a pretty decent sized bar that seats approximately 15-20 people. Brewery Faisan is also dog friendly, as long as you keep your pooches on a leash.
The brewery does not have a kitchen. They do offer a few small snacks, and will have food trucks on occasion. Check their website or their socials before you go to see if they have any food trucks on the day you visit. They do allow outside food at all times. Brewery Faisan is also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The owners pride themselves on brewing Belgian inspired beers. They also brew a few that aren’t Belgian inspired, and everything that they brew is absolutely delicious. They do lean more towards Belgian and European style beers though. In addition, they do offer wine and cider for the non-beer drinker in your group. Also they offer a few non-alcoholic options for the kids or non-drinkers that come in with you.
An interesting side note about Brewery Faisan, they bought all of their brewing equipment from the old Liberty Street production facility in Livonia. I know because I helped them load some of the stuff into trucks when they took it to their facility.
Looking back through all my Untappd check-ins at Brewery Faisan, the lowest score I have ever given one of their beers is a 4.0 out of 5.0. I have checked in 22 unique beers. That is a pretty telling stat, out of all the breweries that have 20 or more check-ins, they are the only brewery that doesn’t have a single beer that is ranked below a 4. Some of my personal favorites from them are Quiddity- A Witbier with coriander and orange peel. Spy Catcher- Czech-Style Dark Lager. Last but not least King Eider- Belgian Dubbel. The King Eider is one of the best representations of a Belgian Dubbel that you will find, not only in Michigan, but without having to travel all the way across the pond to Belgium.
So when you are out and about, heading to Detroit for a concert, sporting event or just a fun little day trip. Swing on by Brewery Faisan and grab yourself some wonderful Belgian Inspired beers. Your taste buds will thank me later. Sante!
