One place I like to frequent on a somewhat regular basis is Draught Horse Brewery & Spirits in New Hudson, Michigan. I love playing disc golf at Kensington Metro Park and stopping either here or River’s Edge in nearby Milford after a round of disc golf is a must. Draught Horse opened in September 2015 and has been a staple of their community ever since.
Draught Horse Brewing is just West of Milford Road off of Grand River Avenue. It is a quaint little place, but they produce quite a bit of beer out of their facility. They consistently have 20 or more options to choose from on their taplist. If your boss is Bill Lumburgh and you are having a case of the Mondays, unfortunately you will have to wait until Tuesday to drown your sorrow, as they are closed on Mondays.
The inside of Draught Horse has a small bar area, capable of seating 6 to 8 people at most. The dining area has approximately 10 tables scattered throughout. In addition there is an outdoor patio attached to the building with another 10 or so tables on it. Across the parking lot there is another outdoor seating area with firepits and picnic tables and chairs that you can enjoy a tasty beverage at. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating areas.
At Draught Horse they do have a kitchen and offer a full food menu. They offer BBQ dishes, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, pizzas, and various other food options. But my personal favorite item on their food menu is their mac and cheese. I love a good mac and cheese and Draught Horse makes one of the best around. You can add different meats and veggies to your mac and cheese to customize it to your taste. I usually go with lobster and jalapeno mac and cheese.
Now when it comes to the beer, they do all different styles. On my recent visit I had a Kolsch and Crystal had a Sour. They offer IPAs, Porters, Stouts, English Bitters, etc. My usual go-to here is their Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout. As we have established, I do love a good Peanut Butter Stout and this one is damn good. Dark, rich, bold, and sweet, this beer tastes just like you are drinking a pint of a dark chocolate Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup with the added bonus of alcohol in it. At 6% ABV, you can drink this one for as long as you feel like.
If you are like me and enjoy going out to Kensington for a round of disc golf, or really any of the various outdoor activities Kensington Metro Park has to offer. Before you go, or after you are finished, stop on by and quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger with a pint of cold beer and a plate of food at Draught Horse Brewing Company.
Pro tip- If you are lucky enough to go for happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 12-4, you can get a burger and a beer for 10 dollars, that is quite the steal. Salud!
