After spending some time checking out the beautiful scenery at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, I bet you are thirsty aren’t you? Well luckily you won’t have to travel too far, Munising has a second brewery for you to quench your thirst at. I present to you East Channel Brewing Company.
East Channel Brewing Company was founded in 2016 and they are located right in Downtown Munising. East Channel is a few blocks away from the brewery that I reviewed the other day ByGeorge Brewing Company. On our visit, we actually just parked the car halfway between the two breweries and just walked to both. The Downtown area of Munising is very walkable, and you can always check out Lake Superior on your stroll.
The brewery has multiple seating options available. There is a ground floor with a decent amount of tables and stools spread all throughout. The bar is a nice wooden long bar that has the capacity to seat about 10 to 15 people at it. East Channel has an upstairs area that has the ability to seat more people during overflow times, this is actually where we sat on our trip to East Channel, they were busy when we arrived (It was Labor Day weekend in the Upper Peninsula).
Another recent development at East Channel is that they opened a production facility, which is called The Connection, right around the block from the brewery itself. This was not open when we visited a few years back, but it does contain a beer garden at the production facility. I will have to make it back in the future to check this out, I love a good beer garden. The Connection does have the ability to host private events, so if you are looking for a place to hold your next shindig, give them a call and book the beer garden.
As far as food goes, it does appear to be seasonal that they provide food. According to their website at the original location they offer a pizza truck during the summer months. Over at the Connection they offer a hot dog truck that offers up other specials daily. If neither of those food options appeal to you, they do allow you to bring outside food into both locations.
When it comes to other drink options at the brewery they do offer wine, cider and seltzer. For the non-drinkers and the children that come by to visit, there is the option of various hand crafted sodas that they make onsite.
We have reached the point of the review where we get to talk about our favorite beverage….beer. East Channel Brewing Company offers up to 10 beers on tap at any given time. Some of the beers that they offer in cans and to go are the Hobo Nectar- Lager, Speedball Trucker- IPA, and the Old Tru’s- IPA. But the beer that I ended up trying on my visit was another beer that they can, Lake Street Stout. It is an Oatmeal Stout that has a slight roastiness from a coffee presence, has a little bit of sweetness from the oatmeal, and finishes very smooth. Checking in at 5.6% ABV, it is a beer that you could safely order two or three on your visit.
It is that time of the review where we have to move on from East Channel Brewing Company and beautiful Munising, Michigan. But next time you are here, don’t hesitate to stop in and grab a pint or two.
Tomorrow we start to make our way towards the craft beer haven of the Upper Peninsula, Marquette. Estrovia!
