Now that we have gone to the brewery that is furthest West in Michigan, our only other option is to start heading back East through the Upper Peninsula. Luckily we don’t have to head too far East to hit another brewery. We only need to travel about 30 minutes to the town of Marenisco, Michigan to visit Five Sons Brewing Company. They were established in 2022 and have been serving thirsty customers ever since.

Five Sons describes themselves as an American Craft Brewery with Austrian and German influences. This brewery is owned by veterans and former law enforcement personnel.

The brewery itself is relatively small and is located in what looks like someone’s house in the country. They have a very nice wooden bar that can seat 6 to 10 people tops. There are a few tables for you to enjoy your beers at. They even have couches set up in an area of the bar so that you can lounge around while drinking a few pints. Also, Five Sons does have outdoor seating available just in case you want to take in all that nature has to offer in the Upper Peninsula.

Five Sons does not serve food, they do offer popcorn for free in case you are looking for something to snack on while you have a few beers. You can bring food in with you, although in a town the size of Marenisco, finding a place to eat might be more challenging than finding beer to drink. Just a heads up, other than a few soda options, there isn’t much that they offer for the non-beer drinker in your group.

On occasion they do have live music at Five Sons Brewing, so check their socials before your visit to see if anyone will be performing during your time here. They do have somewhat limited hours as they are only open Thursday through Sunday, so plan your trip accordingly. During our visit, we got there right at open on a Thursday and we were the first customers of the week.

When it comes to the beer, Five Sons offers up to 8 taps of beer at all times. On our visit we ended up trying their Kraftig Oatmeal Vanilla Stout, and their Quails Irish Red. The Irish Red was my favorite out of the two beers that we tried here. This was a beer that had a slight sweetness from the caramel flavors given off by the malt. It was light-bodied, easy drinking and oh so smooth. This one checks in at 5.4% ABV, so if you feel like having more than one, you may safely do so.

During your beer travels through the Upper Peninsula if you want to check out a nice cozy little brewery that is Veteran owned, stop by the little town of Marenisco and check out Five Sons Brewing Company. Prost!
