The last place that I will be reviewing from our trip up North for Eric’s wedding is Gabriel Farms & Winery/Four Labs Beer and Cider. They are located a few miles East of downtown Petoskey, Michigan. The winery was opened in the year 2000, I am not sure how long they have been brewing beer for.

The barn that the winery is located in is well over 100 years old. Around 1865, the land was deeded to 2 brothers after they had fought in the Civil War. They moved to the barren land and transformed it into fertile farming land which provided oats, corn and cattle for the community for over a century. It continued as a working farm until the 1980’s, when the families of the 2 brothers sold the land. In 1997 it was bought by what would become Gabriel Farms and Winery

In addition to the barn, the house on the property also has rooms available for rent. So no need for a designated driver if you and a group of friends decide you want to spend the night, that option is available on the property.

Inside the barn itself there are quite a few tables throughout the place to enjoy yourself at. Also there is a nice bar area that seats around 10-15 people at it. There are a couple of tables just outside the barn for outdoor seating. Or you can just take your drink and tour the property on your own if you would like. There is quite a bit of property to explore if your heart desires to.

They also allow you to rent out the space for weddings, events, and private parties. In addition to that they host quite a few other events, live music, etc. Take a look at their website and socials if you are interested in their events.

The brewing side of the operation is called Four Labs Beer and Cider. It is called this for the four labrador retrievers that can be found roaming freely throughout the property. Their names are Gracie, Goldie, Gradie and Gabriella. You can also find tins of treats around the bar just in case one of the dogs decides it wants to grace you with their presence. We were fortunate enough to see and play with all four during our visit.

When it comes to wineries that serve beer, a lot of times the beer leaves something to be desired. That was not the case here, all the beer that we tried was absolutely fantastic. We got a flight which included Karen Needs A Manager- Kolsch, Pineapple Express- Fruited IPA, and my personal favorite BBC- Imperial Stout. Dark, rich and decadent this is everything you want a great tasting Imperial Stout to be.

When you pull into the driveway at Gabriel Farms and Winery, just a friendly reminder to use caution and drive slowly, there are 4 adorable labs freely roaming the property. But this is definitely a place to add to your list next time you are visiting Northern Michigan.
