Staying in the same general area of the state as yesterday’s review, we are about to travel 6 miles and 8 minutes South of Transient Artisan Ales to Greenbush Brewing Company in Sawyer, MI. Greenbush opened in June 2011, and has been growing and expanding ever since.

By 2014 they had to purchase the building across the street in order to satisfy the community’s craving for their beer. The Annex was opened which added an additional 95 seats to an already decent sized original taproom, which had close to 90 seats in it already. We did check out both sites when we visited, but we sat down at the bar to enjoy our beers at the original location.

Like I said, lots of seating between the two locations. They do have a kitchen and offer a full food menu. Their merchandise area, in addition to selling beer and merchandise, also sells homemade beef jerky, snack sticks, pub cheeses, and their own housemade bacon. If there is one thing that I might like more than drinking beer, it’s quality meats and cheeses, and they had those in abundance. I think I spent more on snacks to go than I actually did on beer during our visit.

When it comes to the beers at Greenbush, they seem to do a little bit of everything. They will have lighter options, darker options, and varying other options in between. They do seem to specialize in IPAs and Pale Ales, their menu consistently has quite a few options for the hopheads in your life.

Some of my favorites off the Greenbush menu are the Distorter, which is a dark, rich Porter, and one of their flagship beers. Another of my personal favorites is the Anger, which is a Black IPA. Behind Marzen and Fest Bier, there is nothing that I enjoy more than a Black IPA that is done really well. It is hard enough to find a Black IPA on a menu at times, and it is even harder once you find one for it to be a good representation of the style, but Greenbush knocks theirs out of the park. Last but not least they have the Brother Benjamin, which is an Imperial IPA brewed with honey, clocking in at 10.1% ABV, this beer is not for everyone. But if you enjoy big, bold, hoppy beers, with a tiny bit of sweetness, I would highly recommend having a few sips or a pint of this beer while you are here.

Just like yesterday’s review, Greenbush does distribute their beers all over the state of MIchigan. You do not have to go there to get their beers, but if you are in the area hopping around to different breweries or just looking for a place to stop and grab a beer, make a stop at Greenbush Brewing Company. You could grab a handful of beers and some delicious meat and cheese snacks for the rest of your road trip or for when you get to your destination. But whatever you do, as always have fun and be responsible.
