While up North this summer, we came across a new brewery in Boyne City, Michigan called Happy’s Taco Shop. Which at first glance doesn’t sound like a brewery, but I assure you they brew their own beer at Happy’s Taco Shop. When we visited on July 1st, the owner told us that they had just opened within the last month. That would put it at a late May or early June as an opening date for them.

They have a very interesting set-up at Happy’s Taco Shop. All the seating is outside, the inside area looked more or less like a prep kitchen and customers weren’t allowed in. The bar area is an old shipping container that has been refurbished and turned into a bar. Since it is all outdoors, they are a dog-friendly place. They also had a few outdoor games set up throughout the parking lot.

Separate from the bar is a food truck, where they serve tacos out of it. They also have other items on the menu, but it is mostly tacos. We wanted a snack while we were there, so we ended up getting an order of chips and salsa. In the parking lot along with the bar and the food truck, there are quite a few tables and chairs to enjoy your tacos and beer at.

I am not quite sure how enjoyable this setup would be on a day that had less than favorable weather, but when we went it was 75 and sunny. They did mention that they might only do summer hours, so I am not sure if this location will be open during the winter months. Check their website or give them a call before you visit if it’s later in the year.

When it comes to the beer, they only had 3 beers on tap. I tried them all while we were there. They had Happy’s Lager- American Lager, Honey Boy-Kolsch, and Baby Snakes- Session Pale Ale. The Baby Snakes was my personal favorite, it was light, smooth and had a subtle hop presence to it. This was a beer that I could have drank all day.

In addition to the beers, they also make a few other creations with the beer. The other things that they offered at the time were a Michelada made with Happy’s Lager. A spritz made with the Baby Snakes and blood orange. They also had a Pineapple Shandy which was made with the Honey Boy. Crystal ordered the Shandy and she really enjoyed it.

If you are looking for a very cool, unique spot in Northern Michigan to grab a beer and some tacos, I recommend that you swing by and check out Happy’s Taco Shop in Boyne City.
