As we keep heading West across the Upper Peninsula checking out breweries, we have to travel super far to the next destination. A whole 8 minute drive and 4.4 miles away from yesterday’s visit to Negaunee sits Ishpeming, Michigan and Jasper Ridge Brewery & Restaurant. Jasper Ridge opened in 1996 and has been slinging beers and burgers to a thirsty public for almost 3 decades now.

This place is set up more like a restaurant than a brewery. They have a plethora of tables and chairs throughout for your dining and drinking needs, including quite a few booth seating options. Then as far as bar seating goes, they have a nice long bar with the capacity to seat approximately 15 to 20 people. I did not see an outdoor seating area while visiting the brewery.

They do host events at the brewery, such as a weekly trivia night, and various holiday celebrations throughout the year. The space is available for rent, so contact the brewery if you are interested in hosting a get-together in the near future.

When it comes to the restaurant part of the brewery, they offer a menu that consists of things like burgers, pizza, sandwiches, appetizers, entrees, desserts and salads. We did not eat here on our visit to the brewery but the gentleman sitting next to us at the bar was eating a burger that looked and smelled absolutely divine. I was regretting our choice to eat at a restaurant before we left Houghton on our trip here.

Other drink options that they have at the brewery include wine, cider, and they have a full bar with plenty of cocktail and liquor options. For the non-drinker or the children since they are a restaurant, they do offer various sodas and non-alcoholic options.

The beers that we tried on this visit were their Mean Bean- Stout, Killer Bee Honey- Weizenbock, Soul Taker- Red Ale, JK- Hazy IPA, and Wayward Blonde. The best beer that we had on our flight though was their Ranana Banana which was their version of an Irish Red with banana.

Just a disclaimer, I very much dislike the taste of banana, and you will never catch me munching down a banana, or any banana related products. I wanted to hate this beer as much as I hate bananas, but surprisingly the banana worked very well with this beer. It added just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the malty, caramelly, light-bodied nature of a solid Irish Red. Checking in at 4.9% ABV, this one is a sessionable beer that you can enjoy a couple of in a sitting.

Since today’s post was only 8 minutes away from yesterday’s post, it would only make sense that to get to tomorrow’s review we have to travel possibly the furthest distance between breweries in the Upper Peninsula. Tomorrow we travel from Ishpeming all the way up to Copper Harbor. Next time you are getting ready to make this trip, stop off at Jasper Ridge Brewery and Restaurant to fuel yourself up for the long road ahead. Proost!
