Another great brewery in the State of Michigan that has been around for quite a while is Kuhnhenn Brewing Company in Warren, Michigan. Kuhnhenn was established in 1998, although the brewery did not open until 2001, but they have been serving up award winning beer ever since.

Kuhnhenn has become so popular over the years that they ended up opening a second location. In 2016 they opened a location in Clinton Township which has a capacity of 280 thirsty beer drinkers. It also includes a production facility that has a capacity of approximately 26,000 barrels, and the facility also can grow to have a capacity of 75,000 barrels in the future. So they have set themselves up quite nicely for a very successful future where multiple expansions could be very possible.

When it comes to visiting each location, the original location in Warren has a very big U shaped bar that has the ability to seat approximately 20 to 25 people. There are tables scattered throughout the brewery for your drinking pleasure. The Warren location has a lighter menu of snack fare such as pizza, popcorn and pretzels.

The Clinton Township location has a very nice long wooden bar to drink your beers at and can seat approximately 10 to 15 people. There are also plenty of tables to enjoy food and drinks with your friends and acquaintances. This location has a kitchen with a full food menu which includes appetizers, salads, sides, burgers, BBQ sandwiches and various main courses.

Kuhnhenn Brewing Company is home to various events and celebrations throughout the year including but not limited to Chili Cook Offs, Oktoberfest, St. Patrick’s Day festivities, Trivia and Karaoke nights. Check their websites or their social media to see if they are hosting any events during your next trip to either location. I was not able to find out if Kuhnhenn hosts private events during my research for this review, so contact the brewery to see if they allow event rentals if you are interested.

When it comes to the person in your gang that dislikes beer, Kuhnhenn offers other options such as Wine, Mead, and Sake. If you are visiting with young ones or non-drinkers they do offer Root Beer, various Sodas and non-alcoholic Kuhn-Boocha. There will be a little something to drink for everyone in your group.

As I mentioned earlier, Kuhnhenn has award winning beer. Their Double Rice IPA, or DRIPA, as it is known as, has won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup. With all the expansions and accolades they have received over the years, they do offer their beers in cans and bottles and distribute their beers statewide. So you don’t necessarily have to visit the brewery to get some of their beer, but you should check out their locations if you get the chance. Check your local bottle shop or liquor store to see if they carry Kuhnhenn products.

When it comes to the DRIPA, you can definitely tell why this beer has won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup. This one is a heavy hitter, clocking in at an impressive 9.5% ABV, this beer can be very dangerous but delicious. For having that high of an ABV, this beer is actually light-bodied with very pronounced citrus hop aromas. This beer drinks extremely smooth with a slight sweetness, this beer goes down all too easy for the profile that it contains. This is an outstanding example of a Double IPA that is made in Michigan.

On your next visit to Macomb County, make sure to stop by one of the Kuhnhenn Brewing Company locations and grab yourself some world-class beverages. Prost!
