The coolest place to be in the heart of the stadium district is how they bill themselves on their website. From what I saw on my visit, that’s no lie, at least for a Saturday evening. With a large seating capacity including a fantastic patio complete with yard games and a fire pit, Lansing Brewing company seems like the place to be. Add a 7,000 sq. foot event space called the Stockhouse and this place really does seem to have it all. Except ample parking. Even with two lots, we ended up parking across the street.

We were lucky enough to avoid the wait for seating by asking to sit at the bar. While they didn’t have purse hooks, they did have charging stations under the bar. The Bartenders were knowledgeable about the beer and if we asked a question they didn’t know they would always find someone who knew the answer rather than blow us off. That’s a huge plus in my book.

That is seriously one heck of a beer list…

I didn’t get to try the food, but I sure tried the beer. The Velvet Villain and the Angry Mayor were on their staples list and I thought both were good. My favorite of the lot was the 1898 Imperial Stout. Add in a Brown, a Gose and a Bock and I’m a pretty happy camper. Overall I thought they had good beer. I’m going to assume by the wait to get in that the food is good as well.

For a relatively new brewing company, they have a long history in Lansing, which has created a base for a pretty intriguing marketing campaign. One of Lansing’s first breweries, they shut down in 1914, unable to overcome the momentum of the prohibition movement. The info and pictures are all over the Brewery, which makes for a fun and interesting read while sipping that Cream Ale that the founders of the city were so fond of (Just so you know I’m humming We Built This City as I’m typing this).

Please Don’t feed the Brewers it said…

Regardless of the history, they seemed to have hit the mark for hot spot right now. The beer wasn’t extraordinary, but everything we tried was good, which brings in the masses. They have growlers, crowlers and spirits too. Seriously, this place really does have it all, so I’d definitely suggest a visit if you get the chance. In the meantime, I’m trying to come up with an event we can use the Stockhouse for because that place is seriously cool!
