Well as we are getting down to the end of our trip through the Upper Peninsula, we have to make a stop in Crooks, Michigan and stop at LaTulip Brewing Company. They opened in 2022 and have been serving beer to thirsty travelers and hometown heroes for a little over 2 years now.
The brewery itself has a relatively small indoor area, there are just a few tables scattered throughout the area for you to enjoy some drinks at. The bar is actually a pretty long bar and has the capacity to seat approximately 20 people. They also have a little room with a bunch of toys in the back for your children to go and play with while you enjoy a couple of refreshments. Another feature that they have is an outdoor seating area which is a pretty wide open space with plenty of room for you to sip on your beverages. There is also a dog friendly area at the brewery so no need to leave Spot in the car.
LaTulip does offer quite a few events that they host including but not limited to Brews and Bingo, Paint and Sips, and live musical performances from time to time. Upon my research, I couldn’t determine if they offer their space for private events, so check with the brewery if you are interested in possibly renting out the space. LaTulip Brewing is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so plan your trip accordingly.
When it comes to food, they do not have a full kitchen but they do offer a few snacks and frozen pizza as their food options. They also have free popcorn available for all patrons.
If you are with someone who is not a beer drinker they do have other options available. They have Seltzers, Ciders, and Wine for your consumption. Since they are kid friendly they do also offer quite a few non-alcoholic options for your enjoyment.
On our trip to LaTulip the beers that we ended up trying on our flight were Smokey The Beer- Porter, Kitch-iti-kipi Kolsch and Fete De La Biere- Marzen. My personal favorite out of their beers was their Dry Irish Stout. This beer was slightly thin with a roasty, malty profile, and a very smooth finish. Since it is on Nitro, it leads to it having a creamy mouthfeel with a drier finish. This is how a Nitro Stout should taste, and at 5% ABV, you won’t hate yourself for having more than one.
As you are traveling along US-2 in the Upper Peninsula and you get a little thirsty, make a pit stop in Crooks, Michigan at LaTulip Brewing Company and take a well deserved break from your exhausting travels with a couple of cold pints. Cheers!
