I had visited Mountain Town Brewing Company before, but I had not been to their smokehouse just a few blocks away from the brewery itself. When a couple of friends, Henry and Katie, asked to meet us for a birthday dinner and drinks, I jumped at the opportunity. Summit Smokehouse and Taproom opened in 2019, and has been proudly serving beers from Mountain Town Brewing Company ever since.

The Summit Smokehouse and Taproom itself is a very big place with quite a bit of seating throughout. There was also a bar that seated approximately 15 to 20 people. It was a Friday night right around dinner time when we decided to meet up for dinner. When Henry had arrived there was no wait, within about 20 minutes of me getting there and having a beer there was a 30 minute wait. But Henry and I continued drinking as we waited for the girls to arrive.

As for the beers they had 32 different beers on tap, I think 3 or 4 of them were for mug club members only. But 28 different beers on tap is still a hell of a selection. All the beers that they had on tap were Mountain Town Brewing Company beers. They had their 7 or 8 flagship beers on tap, including a personal favorite of mine from Mountain Town, The Steam Engine Stout.

In addition to their flagship beers they also had 20 other beers on tap, and they ran the gamete from light and easy, to dark and heavy, and everything in between. My personal favorites of the rest were the Delightfully Cinnful- Brown Ale with Cinnamon, and their Horske Mesto- Czech Pilsner. The Pilsner was very crisp, refreshing, and went down very easily. As a matter of fact, I had two of those.

As far as the food goes, we started with the giant pretzel, and bring at least a few friends with you to eat this one, you will need them. Crystal and I decided to get their Ultimate BBQ sampler, which came with brisket, pork, pulled chicken, chicken wings, sausages, burnt ends, smoked turkey, cornbread and your choice of two sides. We went with Mac and Cheese and dirty rice. There was so much food, we could have easily split it between all four of us, but instead Crystal and I took the leftovers home. For 40 dollars the sampler is the way to go if you want to try everything, but yet again share with friends, there is plenty enough to go around.

When you are in Mount Pleasant and rooting on Central Michigan later this season, if you are looking for a great spot to grab some BBQ and a couple of beers before or after the game, head on over to the Summit Smokehouse and Taproom in Mount Pleasant. Slainte!
