I finally got to visit my first NEW brewery of the year in 2025 (I have visited plenty of places so far in 2025, but they were all places I have been to before). They have been open for a little while now, but I just haven’t had the time to make it out there yet, until last Sunday. For brewing license number 466 in the state of Michigan, I stopped by hear.say brewing and theater in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They opened this past September and they took over the space that used to house Townies Brewing Company on the West Side of the city.

This is another brewery that is closed on Mondays, which is one of the many reasons I hadn’t been able to make it to them until last weekend. Working in the industry, Mondays are one of my few coveted days that I get off each week. The holiday season was very crazy for me on a personal level also, so it was very hard to visit new places as a result. We had gone to Ann Arbor for the last day of Wolverine State Brewing Company and of course since we were in the area, it was long overdue for me to check this place off the list finally.

Upon your arrival at hear.say brewing and theatre, the first thing you will probably notice is all of their brewing equipment is on display and out in the open directly behind the bar area. The bar area itself has 10 seats at the bar for you to enjoy a couple of pints at. If sitting at the bar isn’t your pint of ale, there are approximately 10 tables scattered throughout the interior of the building for your drinking and dining needs. With the weather starting to get a little nicer over these past couple of weeks, if you want to enjoy a beer or two with some sunshine, there is an outdoor seating area with approximately 6 to 8 tables occupying the outdoor area.

When it comes to the theater part of hear.say, it is in a separate room from the bar and dining area and has a capacity of 55 people. They have events in the theater area on a very consistent basis and include activities such as Improv, Music Theater, Children’s Theater, Story Telling, Improv Classes and much more. Check their website or their socials to see what sort of activities are going on during your visit to hear.say brewing and theater.

When it comes to food at the brewery, they offer quite a few small snacks and appetizer type foods such as tamales, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, pretzel bites and fries. If you are looking for something a little more hearty, hear.say does allow you to bring in outside food, and will have food trucks available on occasion. Take a look at their socials to see if there are any food truck options available during your visit.

For the visitors that don’t drink beer, hear.say offers their very own brands of house distilled liquor which includes options such as Whiskey, Gin, Rum, Bourbon Whiskey and Vodka. They make various house special cocktails with the liquor options that they offer at the bar. In addition, for those that don’t drink alcohol, they offer a few Non-Alcoholic Cocktails for your enjoyment.

Before we get to the beer part of the review, I would love to give a shout out to the two bartenders that were working on my visit, Michael and Carlos, they were absolutely awesome and were very friendly and accommodating on my visit. Keep doing what you are doing guys, you are awesome. Cheers!

Now let’s talk about the beer options that hear.say brewing and theater has to offer. We started by ordering a flight and due to Michael and Carlos being awesome, we ended up trying everything that they had on the board by the time we left the brewery last Sunday afternoon. Some of the options that they had on tap included mild.life- Mild Ale, over.look- Sour Ale, reverse.loop- Kolsch, wonder.land- IPA, zen.waves- Rice Ale, red.clover- Irish Red and citra.smash- Pale Ale.

My favorite of all the options was their black.rose, which was an Imperial Stout. This was a very nice Imperial Stout made with Cacao Nibs. It was roasty and malty with very nice chocolate flavors that shined through upon drinking it. This beer finished very smooth despite the 9.0% ABV that this monster boasts, so enjoy this one responsibly, it will catch up on you if you allow it to.

If you are looking to enjoy a little bit of theatre with some excellent beer or if you are just looking to enjoy a few beers in a really cool setting, I highly recommend going by hear.say brewing and theater in Ann Arbor and paying Michael and Carlos a visit and checking out the delicious options that they are pouring on your visit. Cheers!
