Just a little bit South of Grand Rapids in the town of Wayland is OpenRoad Brewery. They opened back in 2016, and have been a staple in the town of Wayland ever since. Open road is located right in Downtown Wayland.

OpenRoad is a very spacious brewery, they have a long bar area with approximately 15 to 20 seats available for all your drinking needs. They offer tables to enjoy meals at and have drinks with groups of friends. In addition, there is an outdoor patio seating area, which is pet friendly. The brewery is closed on Sunday and Monday, so plan your trip accordingly.

When it comes to the food at OpenRoad Brewery they do offer a full kitchen, which has a menu that consists of an assortment of appetizers, burgers, chicken and sandwiches. Another interesting feature that they have on their menu is weekly specials. For example, I visited on Taco Tuesday, tacos were only a dollar apiece, that’s a pretty good deal if you ask me. Check their socials before you head out to see what the special is for the day when planning your trip. I did not try the food on my trip, I had eaten right before I got there, but all the food looked and smelled great.

If you feel like walking around Downtown Wayland and checking out the city, they do offer a social district area where you can grab a beer from OpenRoad, or a few other areas in town and walk around enjoying a beverage. They host events such as retirement parties, local charity events, and similar events. I am not sure about private events, but contact the brewery and ask if you are interested.

At OpenRoad Brewery they have 12 rotating beers on tap at all times. On my trip I got a flight and it consisted of Dark and Nutty- American Stout, The Traveler- Belgian Tripel, Kilt Lifter- Irish Red, Citradisiac- Pale Ale, Denali- Hazy IPA. The beer that I liked most from the flight was their Juan More, which was a Mexican Lager. Light, crisp, easy drinking with a splash of lime flavor in it, this would be the perfect beer for almost any outdoor summer activity you can think of. At 6.0% ABV, it is a little on the higher side for a Mexican Lager so please use caution as you sip on it. This beer will catch up to you quicker than most Mexican Lagers but it drinks exactly the same, which can be scary.

As you are on your next trip up or down US-131 between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo and your unquenchable thirst needs to be taken care of, make a stop in small-town Wayland and grab a beer or two from OpenRoad Brewery. Estrovia!
