Another brewery that I re-visited in June on my trip was Perrin Brewing Company in Comstock Park, Michigan. Perrin Brewing Company opened in 2012 and has become a major player in the craft beer industry over the last 12 years.

Perrin hit the ground fast and ran with it, they gained a loyal and almost cult-like following and they did it in almost no time. With year round beers like Perrin Black Ale, 59-10 IPA, seasonal offerings like the Call Me Hazy IPA line, it is easy to understand why they took off so quickly.

The real stars of the show here are their specialty releases and barrel-aged series. One of my favorite specialty releases from Perrin is the Roselare, Flanders Red Ale. They fortunately had six packs of Roselare on my recent trip, so I brought a couple home with me. When it comes to their barrel-aged series, they have some heavy hitters on their list. The Malted Milk Ball Porter, and Perrin Reserve are both outstanding and I have various years of both in my cellar. Another one that I haven’t seen in a while but I really enjoy is Unfinished Business, a Japanese Emperor Stout aged in single malt bourbon barrels.

A review of Perrin would not be complete without the mentioning of a beer that has won multiple awards over the years, and numerous accolades, including ranking as the world’s #1 Imperial Porter in 2021 on Untappd. No Rules Vietnamese Porter, from what I understand this is the reason I should hate my allergy to coconut. Everyone loves this beer, and it’s a shame that due to allergies, I can’t try it. They even have an entire week dedicated to the release of this beer every year. This was the beer that launched Perrin into a whole new stratosphere.

In 2015, after only 3 short years in business, Perrin Brewing Company sold to Oskar Blues Brewing out of Longmont, Colorado. They were both under the umbrella of CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective. Then in 2022, CANarchy sold to Monster Beverage for 330 million dollars. With this purchase Monster Beverage also acquired a few other major craft breweries including Cigar City of Tampa, Florida, Deep Ellum Brewing Company of Dallas, Texas, Squatters Brewing and Wasatch Brewpub both out of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Now when it comes to the actual experience at the brewery. Perrin is a massive facility with tables all throughout the building. Also there is a very big bar that has approximately 30 seats at it, for all of your drinking needs. They do offer beer to go, and if you can’t make it all the way to Comstock Park, Perrin distributes their products statewide. You can grab Perrin products at most grocery stores in Michigan and almost every liquor store.

Perrin also has a kitchen with a full menu. Some of the things that are offered on a daily basis are quite a few appetizers, hot dogs and sausages, sandwiches, and pizza. All options look and smell delicious, but sadly I have never gotten food on my visits to Perrin. If you have an appetite to go along with your thirst, Perrin will have something to satisfy your hunger.

If high quality beers in an awesome setting are what you are looking for on your next trip to the Grand Rapids area, head slightly North to Comstock Park and Perrin Brewing Company. Great beer and good times are awaiting your arrival. Proost!
