This is a review all about how
My beer got spilled flipped upside down
And I’d like to drink for a minute
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I visited Short’s Brewery in a town called Bellaire
In Westland, Michigan born and raised
In a brewery was where I spent most of my days
Pourin’ beers, sippin’, slinkin’, all cool
And all drinkin’ some stout outside on a stool
When a couple of wine makers who were up to no good
Started making vino in the neighborhood
I took one lil’ sip and my mom got scared
She said “You’re going to Short’s Brewing Company up in Bellaire.”
I rented a car and when I picked it up
The license plate said “hops” and had a keg in the mirror.
If anything I would say that this car was weird
But I thought, “Nah forget it, yo, Crystal on to Bellaire.”
We slouched up to the bar around seven or eight
We said to the bartender, “Yo, beer over here.”
I looked at my pint glass
It was finally full
So I could sip on my brew as the beer prince of Bellaire
Sorry, I decided it was way more fun to channel my inner Weird Al Yankovic and have some fun with this post, than it would have been to review a bunch of beer that 95% of us know all about, and have all tried at some point. But I will spend some time now to talk about Short’s Brewing Company itself and what you can expect while you are there.
Short’s Brewing Company was founded in 2002, and opened their doors in Bellaire, Michigan in 2004. They became an immediate success with their innovative and off the wall recipes. So much so that they opened a production facility in Elk Rapids, Michigan in 2008. They used to have the slogan “Michigan Only, Michigan Forever”. They ended up outgrowing their slogan, which hurt a little bit if I say so myself, but I completely understand why. They sold about 20 % of the company to Lagunitas Brewing Company in 2017 and started distribution outside the State of Michigan.
The brewery itself pretty much takes up almost all of downtown Bellaire. It is a huge location that has several beer gardens outside of the main facility also. Inside they have a general store where you can buy merchandise and beer to go. They also have an immense capacity inside the brewery with multiple bars that you can belly up to and drink. They also have plenty of tables scattered throughout the building as well.
Short’s Brewing Company also serves food. We did not get food on the most recent trip, we were waiting for our rental property to be ready so we could go to my co-worker Eric’s wedding. But we have had food in the past and I really remember enjoying the food. Especially the cheese bread, I love a good cheese bread with my beer, and Short’s makes a fantastic order of it.
Next time you want to channel your inner Fresh Prince and head up to Bellaire to escape the trouble in the neighborhood. Head on over to Short’s Brewing Company and have some good food, and some good beers from one of the O.G.’s of the Michigan Brewing Industry. (Mic Drop)
