Well after a turbulent week in the Michigan brewing industry…..5 locations have closed their operations since Sunday, I halfway expected that I would be announcing that another place or two decided to close up shop. Luckily I didn’t wake up to find out that someone else decided to call it quits.
Today the sun is shining outside (At least in Plymouth, Michigan), and it is a beautiful day to go out and grab a beer from a local brewery. With the amount of closures over the last week, if you want your favorite spots to survive these trying times, head out and grab a pint, pick up a few cans to take home, fill a growler, support your local breweries and the people that work at them as much as you possibly can.
In the brewing community, we love what we have created over the past few decades and we would all love to keep it going strong into the future. These are troubling and trying times but in order for us to make it through, we need the support of the craft beer lovers in our respective communities to keep this movement going. If you keep putting off visiting your favorite local establishment to grab a pint or two, unfortunately they might be the next place that I post an article about them closing. I would prefer to write positive articles about breweries doing great things, not continuously posting about another brewery deciding to call it quits.
To sum it all up, drink local, stop in to have one of your favorite beers, say hello to your favorite bartenders, gather around with a group of friends and have a couple of pints. We all appreciate it and if we all keep waiting to enjoy our neighborhood breweries, they may not be there in the future, now is the time to act. Your favorite places can’t survive this without your patronage. Come see me at the Bearded Lamb, or go and visit any of the other almost 67,000 people that the Michigan Brewing Industry employs at your local watering hole, we are all eagerly awaiting your arrival. Cheers!
