Alright so with yesterday’s detour from the Detroit story from last week to talk about St. Patrick’s Day for a brief moment. I hope everyone had a safe and responsible St. Patrick’s Day where you enjoyed plenty of delicious beverages. Let’s get back on track today and finish working on the story from Detroit.

When we had last left off, we had just finished visiting Eastern Market Brewing Company and we were getting ready to leave for the show. We had 45 minutes to get to our parking spot, walk to the venue and get seated. This gave us plenty of time to do so, since the parking spot was only a 3 minute drive from Eastern Market and from there it was an 8 minute walk to the venue.

We parked our car at Hollywood Casino Detroit and proceeded to walk towards Detroit City Music Hall for the show. We ended up getting a group of people following us to walk to the venue. Does anyone else have this happen in Detroit to them? I swear this happens every time I am down there, everyone seems to assume that I know where I am going at all times and always follows me. Luckily I know where I am going 99% of the time in Downtown, so they are correct in deciding to follow me. Do I just ooze Detroit and everyone is like, this dude knows where he is going, or does this happen to everyone when you are visiting Downtown? I am very curious about the answer to this question.

The comedy show that we ended up going to see at Detroit City Music Hall was Joe Gatto from the Impractical Jokers. It was a packed house for the comedy show. We had a great time watching Joe do his stand-up routine. There was an opener for the show by the name of Mark Jigarjian, I wasn’t familiar with Mark’s work but he had a very funny set in his own right. I was a little nervous about Joe’s set because we had watched his special on Hulu recently and I was not overly impressed with that set, we ended up turning it off about halfway through. The set that he did this time was much funnier than the set that was on his Hulu special, so that made the night even better.

Did I have a beer at the show? Of course I did, this wouldn’t be a story for the beer page if it didn’t involve beer in some way. The selections were pretty meh to say the least, Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite, Corona, Modelo, Norm’s Raggedy Ass IPA. I settled on an Atwater Brewery Dirty Blonde, which although not my favorite beer, my personal options were either Dirty Blonde or Modelo, but they had sold out of Modelo by the time I got to the front of the line. I got exactly what I expected from the beer, nothing to write home about, nothing to really complain about, it was beer. The one good thing that I can say about the beer, compared to other venues in the Metro Detroit area for events, $8 for a beer was not an absolutely terrible price.

Once the show was over we headed back towards the casino in order to go to the car. We didn’t want to wait for restrooms at the venue once the show was over, so we decided to jump into the casino for a few minutes to go to the restroom. Then we casually walked around the casino floor for a few minutes and people watched on the way back to the car. I don’t care what anyone says, the people watching at a casino is way more fun than the actual gambling that takes place in a casino. Even though I really like to gamble, we did not actually gamble at all this time, just people watched for a few minutes.

After a few minutes of people watching, we headed back to our car to conclude our trip to Detroit for beer and a comedy show. Or was this really the conclusion of our trip to Detroit? Did we decide to hit somewhere else for a last call? The mystery, intrigue and suspense will have to build for another day, stay tuned tomorrow to find out. Cheers!
